New York State Assemblyman Joseph Saladino and Babylon Town Councilman Lindsey Henry recently attended the Change of Watch ceremony for the Great South Bay Power Squadron. The ceremony honored incoming Commander Suzanne Mora and outgoing Commander Alicia Pilek.
“As a lifelong boater, I commend the Great South Bay Power Squadron for the work it does to provide boating education and promote safety on Long Island’s waters,” said Assemblyman Saladino. “Commander Alicia Pilek has done an outstanding job leading this squadron in keeping our waters safe for recreational use, and we thank her for her service. Incoming Commander Suzanne Mora is an exceptional choice to succeed Commander Pilek, and we are very happy to have her on board. This is historic in that it is the first time the organization has had back-to-back, female commanders.”
Founded in 1941, the Great South Bay Power Squadron is a non-profit organization that aims to increase nautical knowledge through the study of navigation, seamanship, and safe boat handling. More information about the group can be found at http://www.gsbps.org/index.html.
