Legislators McKevitt, Ferretti Hold Joint Town Meeting in East Meadow

Seminar Tonight: Protecting Your Special Needs Children Legally and Financially

Senator Hannon is pleased to present a very special workshop for parents of children with special needs. My two speakers are experts at helping parents to navigate the confusing and emotional aspects of estate planning to best serve their special needs children throughout each child’s lifetime.


The event will take place on Thursday, November 14, 2013 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm at the East Meadow Library (1886 Front Street, East Meadow). For directions to the library, click here.

Speakers Andrew Cohen, Esq. and Mitch Weisbrot, CLU, ChSNC, will focus on the legal and financial preparations crucial to safeguarding assets and benefits for special needs children. Topics to be discussed include:


  • Government benefits for individuals with disabilities
  • How to accumulate and preserve assets without disqualifying eligibility for benefits
  • Establishing guardianship
  • Estate planning and wills
  • Special needs trusts – how they work and why they’re useful
  • Strategies for funding trusts.


Senator Hannon encourages anyone with a special needs child to attend this seminar. The two speakers are fathers of children with disabilities, and their experiences and expertise will be invaluable to anyone who has any questions or concerns about best planning for the future needs of their disabled children.

2013 Senator Kemp Hannon Youth Leadership Awards

Senator Kemp Hannon honored sophomores and juniors residing in the Sixth Senatorial District for their leadership in five categories: Academic Leadership, Athletic Leadership, Community Leadership, School Leadership, and Overall Leadership. An awards ceremony was held on May 9th, 2013, at the East Meadow Library, to recognize and award their achievements.
