Legislator Kopel to Host Upcoming Property Tax Assessment Grievance Workshops

If you are a homeowner who disagrees with the new tentative property tax assessment on your residence you may dispute the assessed value between January 2, 2017 and March 1, 2017.

You do not have to pay a law firm to file a grievance. Nassau County Legislator Howard J. Kopel invites you to attend a workshop to help you file a property tax assessment grievance application. At the workshops, a representative from the Nassau County Assessment Review Commission will show residents how to use Assessment Review’s online tools to file a challenge online or via mail. Please try to attend one of these informative workshops. Reservations are not required at these workshops.

WEDNESDAY, JAN. 18, 2017 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM

Oceanside Public Library – 30 Davison Ave., Oceanside, NY 11572

FRIDAY, FEB. 3, 2017 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM

Hewlett-Woodmere Library – 1125 Broadway, Hewlett, NY 11557

To help you file for or learn more about the property tax exemptions you may be eligible for, Nassau County Legislator Denise Ford has helped arrange to bring Department of Assessment office operations to our area:

FRIDAY, JULY 10, 2015 – 1:00 PM TO 3:00 PM
Long Beach Public Library – 111 West Park Avenue

MONDAY, JULY 20, 2015 – 1:00 PM TO 3:00 PM
Oceanside Public Library – 30 Davison Avenue

WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 16, 2015 – 1:00 PM TO 3:00 PM

Department of Assessment staff will process property tax exemption applications (Veterans, Senior Citizen, Cold War Veterans, Volunteer Firefighters and Ambulance Workers, Limited Income Disability, and Home Improvement) on-site. In addition, Nassau County also offers two types of School Tax Relief (STAR) property tax exemptions: Basic STAR (for residents who own and live in their own home, condominium or cooperative apartment with an annual household income of $500,000 or less) and Enhanced STAR (for senior citizens aged 65 years or older with annual incomes of $81,900 or less).

Homeowners who will be filing for an exemption can help expedite the processing of their application by bringing copies of any documentation that is required for the property tax exemption he or she is applying. Applications and specific documentation requirements are available on the Department of Assessment website at http://www.nassaucountyny.gov/1501/Assessment

“I urge all owners to take advantage of this worthwhile property tax savings workshop,” stated Legislator Ford.
