Nassau County Legislator C. William Gaylor III would like to inform all owners of a home,condominium or cooperative apartment, that they may qualify for hundreds of dollars in property tax savings each year.

 

The Nassau County Department of Assessment is bringing its office operations to the public. Department of Assessment staff will be on hand to answer any questions about exemptions and accept applications on-site from homeowners wishing to file for Veterans, Senior Citizen, Cold War Veterans,Volunteer Firefighters and Ambulance Workers, Limited Income Disability, and Home Improvement exemptions.

Due to the recent changes with New York State’s STAR exemption program, No NEW Basic STARapplications will be accepted. Enhanced STAR applications will ONLY be processed for homeowners that were enrolled in the STAR Program prior to 1/20/15. If you would like to file a new STAR or Enhanced STAR application, please call the New York State Department of Finance:(518)-457-2036.

 

Homeowners who will be filing for an exemption can help expedite the processing of their application by bringing two (2) copies of required documentation. Property Tax Exemptions Workshop in New Hyde Park

Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District), Legislator Richard Nicolello and County Executive Ed Mangano will be sponsoring a Property Tax Exemptions Workshop in New Hyde Park. The program will take place on Thursday, September 22nd from 1-2:30 pm at the Hillside Public Library (155 Lakeville Road, New Hyde Park).

 

Department of Assessment staff will be on hand to assist any homeowner who would like to file for the Veterans, Senior Citizen, Cold War Veterans, Volunteer Firefighters and Ambulance Workers, Limited Income Disability, Home Improvement or (for homeowners already in the STAR Program) the Enhanced STAR property tax exemption on-site.

 

Homeowners who will be filing for a property tax exemption are strongly encouraged to make copies of their 2015 Federal and State Income Tax Forms, Driver’s License, and any other documentation that is required prior to the workshop. Documentation requirements can be viewed on the application available on the Department of Assessment website at www.nassaucountyny.gov/assessment.

Department of Assessment staff assisted homeowners in applying for the property tax exemptions offered by Nassau County, including the Veterans, Senior Citizen, Cold War Veterans, Volunteer Firefighters and Ambulance Workers, Limited Income Disability, and Home Improvement exemptions.

Mangano to Help Homeowners File for Property Tax Relief with August Workshops

As part of his continued efforts to help homeowners reduce their property tax burden, County Executive Edward Mangano will be hosting a series of Property Tax Exemptions Workshops in August at libraries and community meeting halls throughout Nassau County.

 

Department of Assessment staff will be on hand to assist any homeowner who would like to file for the Veterans, Senior Citizen, Cold War Veterans, Volunteer Firefighters and Ambulance Workers, Limited Income Disability, Home Improvement or (for homeowners already in the STAR Program) the Enhanced STAR property tax exemption on-site.

 

The property tax exemptions workshops will be offered from 1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. at the following locations:

 

• Tuesday, August 2 at the Lakeview Public Library located at 1120 Woodfield Road

• Thursday, August 4 at the Hempstead Public Library located at 115 Nichols Court

• Friday, August 5 at the 5 Towns Community Center at 270 Lawrence Avenue, Lawrence

• Tuesday, August 9 at Valley Stream VFW Post 1790 located at 65 East Merrick Road

• Wednesday, August 10 at the Hicksville Public Library located at 169 Jerusalem Avenue

If you live in and are the owner of a home, condominium or cooperative apartment, you may qualify for hundreds of dollars in property tax savings each year. To help you file for or learn more about the property tax exemptions you may be eligible for, the Nassau County Department of Assessment is bringing its office operations to our area. Department of Assessment staff will process property tax exemption applications (Veterans, Senior Citizen, Cold War Veterans, Volunteer Firefighters and Ambulance Workers, Limited Income Disability, and Home Improvement) on-site.

 

In addition, Nassau County also offers two types of School Tax Relief (STAR) property tax exemptions: Basic STAR (for residents who own and live in their own home, condominium or cooperative apartment with an annual household income of $500,000 or less) and Enhanced STAR (for senior citizens aged 65 years or older with annual incomes of $84,550 or less).
